Château Haut-Bages Libéral
After a tragic accident took her parents' lives, Claire Villars-Lurton was forced to give up her physics studies in Paris and return to Bordeaux. She learned winemaking from her grandfather and built Château Haut-Bages Libéral into one of the top producers in Pauillac, while staying the course of her convictions in converting to biodynamics.

Our Experiences
Meet the Winemaker
Claire never wanted to be a winemaker like her mother. She wanted to carve her own path. Just 25 years old when she took over the estate, Claire had to prove herself, and she rose to the top. She is deeply committed to organic and biodynamic practices and always pushes the boundaries in winemaking.
In the Vineyard & Cellar
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grow in soil composed of deep gravel on limestone-clay substrate near the Gironde estuary. Having farmed organically for more than 10 years, the estate was Demeter certified in 2019. Biodiversity and sustainable, natural ecosystems are important in the vineyard. The winemaking process respects Pauillac tradition, with fermentation occurring in stainless steel and concrete vats before aging in French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. The wine is then clarified with egg whites before bottling. Wines are made to age and express full potential after more than 10 years.
